The Choir

The ensemble was created on the occasion of the 100th annversary of Rotary international in 2005 under the name of Rotary District Choir 1860. The choir members are all Rotarians, members of Inner Wheel Clubs and Rotaract Clubs. Friends related to the ideas of Rotary International are also invited to join us. We are currently about 50 singers, still growing.

Founder and artistic director of the choir is Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow Dr. Elke Voelker. She was Group Study Exchange scholar of RI in 2001, charter president of the German Rotary Club Limburgerhof/Vorderpfalz in 2003/2004 and a member of the District 1860 Advisory Board (2003-2012), first for women's issues, then for cultural coordination. Besides this she is member of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians. (www.elkevoelker.de

The German Rotary Choir (District 1860) offers to its members also individual vocal coaching with the renowned bass-baritone and vocal teacher Lionel Fawcett (www.lionel-fawcett.com).

What are our goals?

In addition to a professional work during our rehearsals the joy of making music together and celebrating friendship whilst singing are important aspects for us.
Every two years we are preparing a big Rotarian benefit concert for choir and orchestra. Besides that the German Rotary Choir participates in various Rotarian events or church services. Inquiries and referrals for this purpose are welcome. The proceeds of our concerts support Rotarian service projects.
